Dentistry for Kids

At our office we take pride in creating and maintaining beautiful and healthy smiles for kids of all ages… Even our youngest patients!  We work in an environment that is lighthearted, fun and engaging.  Dr. Georgacopoulos takes time to talk to each of our patients and helps to establish healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Fluoride Treatments are recommended at least one time per year as part of the effort to guard against childhood dental decay.  We use a topical, brush on treatment that will appear shiny and slightly cloudy in color at first, but will disappear after about an hour.  This method has been approved by the ADA as the most effective way to aid in the growth and maintenance of your child’s primary teeth.

Flossing is an important step to keeping your mouth and your whole body healthy… Even for kids! It goes hand-in-hand with brushing.  Kids should begin to learn how to floss as soon as they begin brushing. Be sure to make brushing and flossing fun for kids. It’s the best way to start good, healthy oral habits.  Even if the spaces between your child’s teeth seem large or open, it’s important for them to begin getting in the habit.  Create habits now that last a lifetime!

Sealants are made up of a thin liquid composite that is “painted” into the deep grooves of your child’s teeth.  We recommend placing sealants on all molars as soon as they erupt, or break through, the gum tissue.  New permanent teeth have deep grooves that are hard for little hands to keep clean, leading to cavities.  Placing a sealant on each molar can help to reduce the chances of your child developing a cavity!

Mouth Guards are essential for your child if they play sports.  It is a “retainer-type” device worn over the teeth that protects them from blows to the face and head.Mouth guards typically cover only the upper teeth and are designed to protect against broken teeth, cut lips and other damage to your mouth. Mouth guards are an important piece of equipment for anyone participating in a sport that involves falls, body contact or flying equipment. This includes football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, gymnastics, mountain biking — any activity that might result in an injury to the mouth.
